The National Children’s Study is the largest long-term study of environmental and genetic effects on children’s health ever conducted in the United States. By following 100,000 children from before birth to age 21, study researchers hope to better understand how children’s genes and their environments interact to affect their health and development.
Families who participate in the National Children’s Study will come from 105 locations (counties or groups of counties) across the United States. All locations were chosen to ensure children and families from across the nation are fairly represented in the Study.
Montgomery County was selected as one of the first locations to begin the National Children’s Study. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has partnered with the Montgomery County Health Department to coordinate the Study in Montgomery County. The CHOP Study team will begin visiting homes in Montgomery County in April 2009 to invite eligible women to join the National Children’s Study.
