In an effort to help residents protect themselves and their families in the event of a pandemic or other health emergency, the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety and the Montgomery County Health Department have created a series of four Pandemic Preparedness Videos.
The General Public video is designed to prepare families for emergencies. It features tips on how to ensure the health and safety of families during unexpected events, such as what components to include in a family’s emergency preparedness kit, and what can happen if a family is not prepared. The Montgomery County Health Department will be conducting a series of low cost Rabies Clinics every Saturday during the month of June in order to ensure that resident pet owners have access to this disease prevention service.

The 3 year shot is eight dollars and is available for dogs, cats and ferrets.  Animals must be leashed or in an approved carrier.

Based on a review of forecasts from the National Weather Service, the Montgomery County Health Department is declaring a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency for Montgomery County for the 48 hour period which begins at noon Saturday, March 8, 2008 until noon Monday, March 10, 2008. A Code Blue declaration is made in Montgomery County when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter. A Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is anticipated to be 20º F or less. On February 7, 2008, the Montgomery County Health Department will respond to the impact of HIV and AIDS in the city’s African American communities by providing rapid HIV testing by request in our Norristown Clinic from 8am to 3pm in observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD).
 
Nationwide, more than 2,000 organizations in more than 800 cities will participate in the eighth annual observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
 
NBHAAD is a nationwide mobilization effort designed to encourage African Americans across the United States to get educated, get tested, get treated and get involved with HIV/AIDS, as it continues to devastate Black communities.

The Montgomery County Health Department (MCHD) will be conducting adulticiding (spraying) in order to control the adult mosquito population within the County. MCHD will be spraying in selected areas of Montgomery Township on September 21st, 2007.

8/25/2007 Code Red:
Based on a review of forecasts from the National Weather Service, the Montgomery County Health Department is declaring a Hot Weather Health Warning for Montgomery County for the 8 hour period which begins at noon Saturday, August 25th, 2007 until 8pm Saturday, August 25th, 2007. 8/24/2007 Press Release:
MCHD will be spraying in selected areas of Norristown Municipality on August 27th, 2007, and in Upper Merion Township on August 27th, 2007.

8/2/2007 KI Distribution:
The yearly KI Distribution scheduled August 9th, 2007 for new residents living within a ten mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station has been cancelled.
 
Tablets given out previously have an expiration date of August 2007, however, a shelf life extension of two years has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) based on scientific evidence that the KI tablets will remain effective beyond their original expiration date. Therefore, residents who possess pills with an expiration date of August 2007 do not need to obtain replacement tablets and should not discard the tablets they currently have.
